At one point or another in their lives, 75% of women will have a yeast infection. Of that 75%, half will have recurring problem with yeast all of their lives. Chances are, if you're reading this, you've had a yeast infection, or know someone who has. You need to know how to treat a yeast infection.
Yeast infections are caused when the fungus Candida Albicans grows out of control in the vaginal area, causing burning, intense itching, and redness. Candida occurs naturally in the body, but if something happens to alter the body's natural flora balance - like taking antibiotics, or using an alkaline soap - the yeast can begin to overgrow. Luckily for women everywhere, how to cure a infection isn't rocket science!
When deciding how to treat a yeast infection, you're going to see that there are tons of medications and remedies available. Some treat the infection; some treat the symptoms, such as the itching or discharge. You don't have to resort to treating a yeast infection with these over the counter remedies, however. There are natural remedies, especially when you remember that the vaginal infection happened because your body got "out of whack". Putting your body back into balance is what you need, so take at look at these 4 remedies.
1. Yogurt - Yogurt is rich in the "good" bacteria that keep things like candida in check. Eating it isn't the only way to use yogurt to get rid of a yeast infection - you can apply it to the affected area. Get a tub of plain, unsweetened yogurt, and dip a tampon into it. Insert the tampon, and leave it in for a while. This lets the "good" bacteria in the yogurt take hold in the vagina; it also feels soothing to itching, irritated tissues.
2. Apple cider vinegar - Apple cider vinegar is acidic, so it kills yeast. Use it, mixed with plain water, as a douche. Be sure not to use plain white vinegar!
3. Garlic - Garlic has been known as an anti fungal for generations. Placing a clove of garlic in the vagina might help women who are suffering from mild infections.
4. Tea Tree Oil - The oil from the melaleuca, or tea tree, is a very powerful antibiotic/anti fungal. Mix a few drops with a carrier oil, such as grapeseed, and apply in the vagina.
Give these remedies a try, but remember; if they don't give you relief, go see your doctor. You might have some other type of infection.
